New Gavin Esler book: Brexit Without the Bullshit
Posted on June 19 2019
Canbury Press has published an excoriating book on Brexit by the former BBC Newsnight presenter Gavin Esler.
Brexit Without the Bullshit was published on Thursday 27 June in paperback, hardback, ebook and audiobook.
Britain is due to leave the European Union in November 2019, possibly crashing out without a deal.
Brexit Without the Bullshit reveals the damage that leaving the European Union has done, and will do, to schools, hospitals, businesses and other important areas of British life.
Canbury Press acquired world English language rights from Andrew Gordon of David Higham Associates.
Martin Hickman, MD of Canbury Press, said: “This is the book Nigel Farage doesn’t want anyone to read. It sets out in accessible and ordinary language why Brexit is such an unending drain on public life. No other Brexit book has ranged so widely and pithily across the life of the nation and I am immensely excited to publish it.”
Canbury Press published Ian Dunt’s bestseller Brexit: What the Hell Happens Now? in 2016.
Hickman said: "Anyone who loved Ian Dunt’s book will be horrified and amazed by Gavin’s. I expect they will close the last page with a renewed sense of resolve.”
Mixing personal anecdotes, reportage and expert reports, Brexit Without the Bullshit starts by asking how Brexit will change our food.
Esler then looks at whether Britain will find an extra £350 million a week for the NHS, as promised by the Vote Leave campaign, and how EU citizens currently plug staff shortages in schools and hospitals.
Esler was a main presenter of the BBC current affairs show Newsnight for 12 years until 2014. He stood for Change UK in the 2019 European Parliament elections.
Esler said: “This book was inspired by the misinformation, disinformation and blatant lies of those who have brought us Brexit.
“They clearly have no idea what they are doing and are putting at risk what is left of the unity of the United Kingdom. The Brexit fiasco has created an image of our great country which looks incompetent and divided to the rest of the world and a political system which is no longer fit for purpose.
“My aim has been to offer the facts about what Brexit will mean for our daily lives - from the food we eat to how we will source our medicines, where our health care workers will come from to what travel in Europe will look like.
"My only regret is these facts were not discussed when we voted in the 2016 referendum. I hope Brexit Without The Bullshit will help us think again.”
